Hi, Waterwolf, on the photo http://media.techeblog.com/images/waterwolf-mpx-3-electric-surfboard.jpg it is clear that the propeller has a relatively large diameter. Is gearbox used?
No I dont believe it is used based on the OD of the pod.
I also did some rough math and the torque of motors of that diameter and their speed suggest there would be no need if a 50-80 Kv motor is available.
I could be worong but I dont think any OEM will ever answer a question like that?
